| Just miles away from the mighty Andes, is the modern metropolois of Santiago, the capital city of Chile. Distinctly European in character, it is a city with wide streets and buildings with neoclassical architecture.
The metro system is clean and efficient and there is a general state of public orderliness. The centro is the epicenter of the city's commerce and civic business. It is a hive of shopping streets, government buildings, universities and office buildings all contained in a relatively small area. Barrio Bellavista is one of Santiago's liveliest neighborhoods - at least at night. Its narrow streets teem with upscale restaurants and bars. Pio Nono, the main drag, is lined with a busy street market hawing handicrafts. |
