Yesterday was my last day at work. While I had communicated my intention to quit well ahead of time, today still feels like a definitive turning point.  I did not rush to catch the train this morning and will not do so anytime soon. I will miss looking for willets, buffleheads, curlews and other shorebirds as the train passes the Bayshore Lagoon on the way to SF, a high point of my morning each day.  Being somewhat of a creature of habit, I will also miss my morning coffee at the office kitchen first thing when I get in, my usual 9 to 5 work preoccupation and interacting with my co-workers, who incidentally have been very supportive of my decision.  Nobody thought I was insane to be quitting my job to travel.  If anything, they wanted to go too !  That was great.

In a culture where you are primarily defined by how you make your money, it is time to redefine myself on my own terms - full-time traveller - at least temporarily.

You are not insane to pursue your dream. We are insane that we let you go. :-) From James Chou, on Jun 6, 2012 at 11:46PM
" ... by how you make your money .. " Hmm. Am late in reading this but that line is such a truism. From Kishore, on Sep 26, 2012 at 09:53AM
